Obama erwähnt 3D-Drucker in seiner “State of the Union” Ansprache (Update) und löst Boom in China aus

13.02.2013 – Der Amerikanische Präsident Barack Obama spricht in seiner weltweit verfolgten “State of the Union” Ansprache von 3D-Drucker und hegt scheinbar hohe Erwartungen an diese Technologie.

Der US-Präsident betont in seiner Ansprache erneut, Amerika zu einem Magnet für Jobs und Produktion machen zu wollen. Dabei kündigte er auch die Eröffnung drei neuer “Manufacturing Labs” an, die in Zusammenarbeit mit dem “Departments of Defense and Energy” die 3D-Technologie  weiter vorantreiben sollen.

A once-shuttered warehouse is now a state-of-the art lab where new workers are mastering the 3D printing that has the potential to revolutionize the way we make almost everything. There’s no reason this can’t happen in other towns. So tonight, I’m announcing the launch of three more of these manufacturing hubs, where businesses will partner with the Departments of Defense and Energy to turn regions left behind by globalization into global centers of high-tech jobs. And I ask this Congress to help create a network of fifteen of these hubs and guarantee that the next revolution in manufacturing is Made in America.

Bereits Anfang 2011 bescheinigte das Weiße Haus, 3D-Druck eine hervorragende Zukunft. Letztes Jahr setzte die Regierung mit dem NAMII Projekt die ersten konkrete Schritte, um die Produktion in Zusammenarbeit mit Universitäten sowie industriellen Partnern, auf Basis der 3D-Drucktechnologien zurück in Land holen zu können.

Update: 22.07.13 – Terry Wohler: “unerwartete Konsequenzen”

Laut Terry Wohler von Wohlers Associates, zeigt die populäre Ansprache seitens Obama Anfang des Jahres nun unerwartete Konsequenzen. Erwartungsgemäß erfuhr diese Technologie durch den prominenten Rückenwind eine hohe Aufmerksamkeit, welche zu einen regelrechten Entwicklungs- und Investitions- Boom führte. Laut Wohler ist dies allerdings vor allem in China der Fall:

“At the May 2013 World 3D Printing Technology Industry Conference in Beijing, China, no fewer than five Chinese speakers mentioned Obama’s statement in the first morning of the event. They credited him for creating the almost frenzy-like attention that the technology has been receiving in recent months. And, many Chinese believe that 3D printing is the next big thing. Obama’s remark more than lit a spark in China. It has ignited a raging fire of activity throughout the country. The central government is sponsoring programs and provincial and city governments are doing the same. The activity started in Beijing and then moved to the Anhui province.
