Robotic Fabricator- iRobot stellt Patenantrag für 3D-Druck Roboter

Das amerikanische Unternehmen iRobot Corporation engagiert sich in der Rüstungstechnologie und ist vor allem für seine Staubsauger Roboter Roomba bekannt. Ein nun eingereichter Patentantrag offenbart auch die 3D-Drucker Pläne des Unternehmens.

Das 1990 am MIT gegründete Unternehmen iRobot, stellte letztes Jahr einen Patentantrag auf ein Produkt mit dem Titel: “Robotic Fabricator”.

A fabrication system includes a tool-head for manufacturing, a first manipulator and a second manipulator. The first manipulator supports and manipulates an item, and is configured to provide six-axes of movement for positioning of the item relative the tool-head. The second manipulator carries a component and orients the component at a select orientation relative to the item supported on the first manipulator. The tool-head is configured to add material to at least one of the item and the component. The first and second manipulators provide at least six axes of fabrication for the tool-head.

Der automatische all-in-one Fabrikations-Roboter, kann neben Fräs-, Bohr-, und Bestückungsroboter auch über einen integrierten 3D-Drucker verfügen und könnte künftig den einen oder anderen Produktionsprozess automatisieren. Der integrierte 3D-Drucker soll dabei verschiedene Kunststoffe sowie Gummiarten verarbeiten können und könnte neben einem privaten und kommerziellen Einsatzbereich auch im militärischen Bereich hilfreich sein.

Ob der der Robotic Fabricator tatsächlich am Markt erscheinen wird, bleibt abzuwarten.
