University of Leeds eröffnet Einrichtung für Innovative Robotertechnik

Stratasys kündigte die Eröffnung der Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) National Facility für Innovative Robotic Systems an der University of Leeds an. Das Zentrum hat die mondernsten Ausstattungen für Robotertechnik in Großbritannien.

Unter anderem stehen Wissenschaftlern und Studenten nun 3D-Drucker von Stratasys wie der Objet1000 und der Objet500 Connex colour zur Verfügung. Die staatlich geförderte Einrichtung mit einem Investment von £4,3 Millionen soll Leeds an die Spitze im Bereich Roboter-Entwicklung und -Design im Vereinten Königreich stellen und soll nicht nur der Wissenschaft sondern auch der Industrie zur Verfügung stehen.

Das Labor ist auch mit einem 3D Visualisierung Studio ausgestattet, welches das genaue inspizieren von digitalen Modellen vorm 3D-Druck ermöglicht.

“Robotics has been identified by the Government as one of the areas where the UK can develop a technological edge, therefore it’s our vision to build a world-leading centre for robotics and autonomous systems,” sagt Dr Robert Richardson, Director der Einrichtung. “We looked at the most innovative and exciting robots being developed across the world and asked ourselves what kit we’d need to build something even better.

“With our 3D printing technology, we’ll be able to make robots that are smaller, more intricate, more flexible and more integrated than ever before,” fügt er hinzu. “Leeds already has a great track record in robotics for surgical applications, patient rehabilitation, prosthetics, and exploration, but the new facility will revolutionise our ability to turn new concepts into reality.”
