3D Systems (DDD) überrascht heute erneut mit einer interessanten Ankündigung. Der Sänger, Entertainer und Unternehmer will.i.am soll künftig das Unternehmen als Chief Creative Officer (CCO) inspirieren.

09.01.2014 – Ob es sich bei dieser Ankündigung um einen Marketing Gag handelt oder ob will.i.am tatsächlich operative Tätigkeiten bei 3D Systems übernehmen wird, darf gespannt abgewartet werden. Laut Pressemeldung soll will.i.am jedenfalls künftig die Initiativen von 3D Systems inspirieren und sein Talent, seinen Einfluss und seine Visionen in das Unternehmen einbringen. Sein Fokus wird demnach auf high-end fashion, Zubehör, Entertainment, life style und Bildung liegen.

In this leadership role, will.i.am will inspire, shape and drive all of 3DS’ initiatives to mainstream the use of 3D printing through major collaborations with creative brand partners, innovative global campaigns and educational grand challenges designed to grow the popularity of 3D printing.

The addition of will.i.am to the 3DS team brings tremendous talent, vision and influence, and underscores the company’s commitment to democratize 3D printing. 3DS plans to leverage will.i.am’s international creative industry network to immediately extend its reach into select high-end fashion accessories houses, leading entertainment and life style brands and key corporate sponsored educational and sustainability initiatives.

3D Systems kündigte im Zuge der CES mit dem Cube 3, dem Cube Pro neue Consumer 3D-Drucker an, stieg mit der ChefJet Serie in den Lebensmittelbereich ein, erweiterte mit CeraJet seinen Keramikbereich, erweiterte sein Portfolio mit iSense um einen neuen 3D Scanner, mit 3D Photobooth um eine neue 3D Fotokabine und mit Haptic 3D Mouse sein Consumer Angebot um eine 3D-Maus. Zusätzlich kündigte das Unternehmen mit CubeJet einen Full Color 3D Drucker um unter $5000 an und schloss eine Partnerschaft mit Intel und Samsung ab.
